Skal... skal ikke.

Shall... Shall not.

There are several common reasons why people in Denmark or other countries do not seek medical attention when they experience urinary incontinence, regardless of the degree of symptoms. These reasons may vary from individual to individual and may include:

  1. Shame and stigma: Urinary incontinence can be associated with shame and stigma. Some people may feel that it is a taboo subject and therefore avoid sharing their experience or seeking professional help.

  2. Believe it's common: Some people may believe that urinary incontinence is a natural part of aging or after pregnancy and childbirth. This perception can lead to an underestimation of the problem and they therefore do not actively seek help.

  3. Lack of up-to-date information: Lack of knowledge about available treatment options and technological advances can lead to some people not being aware that urinary incontinence can be managed and treated effectively.

  4. Time pressures and priorities: Many people have busy lives and time commitments that can prevent them from seeking medical care. They may postpone the visit, especially if the symptoms do not appear to be acute.

  5. Fear of diagnosis and treatment: Some people may be worried about what the doctor might find or be afraid of the potential treatment methods. The fear of unpleasant procedures or medical interventions may deter some from seeking help.

  6. Lack of self-awareness: Some individuals may tend to underestimate the severity of their symptoms or may believe that the problem will resolve itself with time.

  7. Financial considerations: The cost of doctor visits, treatment, or necessary medications may deter some people from seeking medical care, especially if they do not have access to health insurance.

It is important to understand that urinary incontinence is not a normal part of aging and that help is available. Breaking the taboo around urinary incontinence, increasing awareness and creating openness can help reduce barriers and encourage more people to seek help, improve their quality of life and treat underlying causes of urinary incontinence.
